This was my interpretation on the theme.
Use WASD or Arrow Keys to move.
Mouse to aim and left click to fire.
Enemies spawn randomly, with random stats, such as speed and fire-speed.

I think, it's definitely a good step, because scratch development can be boring for your viewers if you're not doing Grffpatch level stuff.
